4x4 Parts & Accessories in Porirua

Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Porirua and its harbour suburbs — Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. We don't have a Porirua shop or a counter anywhere: Kren Bits is a New Zealand online store. You order on the website, the parts come to your door or your work, and you fit them yourself or hand them to your local mechanic. The bullbars and lift kits we sell for popular utes are bolt-on and come with their fitting hardware, so a capable home mechanic or any local workshop can get them on.

4x4 parts delivered to Porirua

Porirua is a city of around 59,000 people (2023 Census) wrapped around a harbour, with a mix of very different neighbourhoods: Tītahi Bay and Elsdon on the western side, Cannons Creek, Waitangirua and Rānui in the eastern hills, Whitby and Pāuatahanui around the inlet, and Plimmerton, Mana and Pukerua Bay strung along the coast to the north. Kenepuru is the industrial end of town, and since Transmission Gully opened in late 2021 the city sits right on the main route north out of Wellington. That makes it a practical base for a 4x4 — commuting in on SH59 or the motorway during the week, then heading for the hill country behind Pāuatahanui or up the coast at the weekend.

Many Porirua utes double as trade trucks, boat tow vehicles and weekend 4x4s, which is why front protection and stronger suspension are the usual upgrades.

Orders to Porirua come by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars and other bulky items travel by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before we send anything — an easy mistake is buying a bar or kit for the wrong model year of the same ute.

Bullbars for Porirua drivers

Our bullbars are from Rockarmor, a steel bar brand built around the vehicles New Zealanders actually drive. The Rockarmor GT Hoop replaces the factory bumper with a powder-coated steel bar, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, and it has provision for a winch and driving lights. Each bar is made for a specific model, so it lines up with the chassis mounts on your truck rather than relying on universal brackets.

Rockarmor bullbars that suit the utes and wagons common around Porirua:

Fitting a steel bar takes two people but isn't technical. The factory bumper comes off, the bar bolts onto the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any sensors move across to the new bar. If a driveway in Tītahi Bay or Whitby isn't the place you want to do it, a local mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it for you. To finish the front end, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and a pair of Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights.

Lift kits for Porirua 4x4s

A steel bullbar and a winch put extra weight on the front springs, and a boat or trailer on the towbar does the same to the rear. That's why plenty of owners pair a bar with a lift kit. We carry two brands.

RAW 4x4 kits are what we recommend for late-model utes. A 2-inch (about 50mm) RAW kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load ratings to suit how you use the truck — light most of the time, or towing and carrying every day. Good matches for Porirua vehicles:

Ultima 4x4 covers many of the older and less common four-wheel drives still on Wellington roads:

Lift kits bolt in, but they're best done by a mechanic with a hoist, and every one needs a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles; bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you go further.

Popular 4x4s in Porirua

Drive through Kenepuru or past the boat ramps on a Saturday and you'll see the same trucks again and again. The Ford Ranger is everywhere, and a Ranger bullbar is one of the first things owners add. The Toyota Hilux is just as common, from N80 work utes wearing a Hilux GT Hoop bullbar to older N70s that suit the 2012–2015 Hilux bar and the N70 Hilux lift kit.

The Isuzu D-Max is popular with tradies and towers — look at the D-Max lift kit for 2012–2017 trucks — and the Mitsubishi Triton, with a Triton MR bullbar, rounds out the ute list. Families towing boats and caravans often run a Prado, and the Prado 150 lift kit lifts the rear to carry that load. Navara D40 owners, Amarok drivers and the odd LandCruiser 70 Series complete the picture.

4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Porirua

Akatarawa Forest via Bulls Run Road. Porirua's nearest serious 4WD country is Akatarawa Forest, about 15,000 hectares of native and exotic forest between Upper Hutt and the Kāpiti Coast run by Greater Wellington Regional Council. One entrance is Bulls Run Road, reached from SH58 near Haywards via Moonshine Road — a short drive from Pāuatahanui. Akatarawa is the only Greater Wellington regional park where 4WDs, quads and motorbikes are allowed, but it isn't open for casual trips: every driver needs an individual permit applied for through MyGW, and 4WD outings have to be organised trips through the Akatarawa Recreational Access Committee (ARAC), led by ARAC-certified trip leaders. Vehicles stay on the tracks shown on the official 4WD maps, the forest-road speed limit is 30km/h, and the Rock Garden and Devils Staircase are for experienced drivers only.

Battle Hill and Puketiro Forest (Pāuatahanui). Battle Hill Farm Forest Park is at 610 Paekākāriki Hill Road, about 6km from SH58 at Pāuatahanui — a working farm park with walking, biking and horse trails, not a place to drive off-road. It's also listed as one of Akatarawa's entrances, into the Puketiro Forest block behind it. Check Greater Wellington's notices before planning anything: as of May 2026 harvesting was under way in Puketiro, with the southern loop closed to recreation and the northern loop open on weekends only.

Porirua's beaches. Don't plan on beach driving close to home. After Porirua City Council's 2021 Transport Bylaw review, vehicles are no longer allowed on Tītahi Bay beach other than to launch a boat or unload at a boatshed, and the gates have been locked since March 2022, with access only for eligible boatshed owners and boaties who apply.

Clubs. Joining a club is the normal way into Akatarawa and the wider Wellington back country. NZFWDA-affiliated clubs in the region include the Tararua 4WD Club, which has a Pukerua Bay contact address and meets at the Paraparaumu RSA; the Cross Country Vehicle Club (Wellington), which meets at the Naenae Bowling Club and has run Greater Wellington's guided public Akatarawa trips in the past; Capital Cruisers 4WD Club and Windy City Off-Roaders in Lower Hutt; and the Wellington Jeep Club and Kiwi 4x4 Club. Clubs run training days and certified trip leaders, which is exactly what Akatarawa access requires.

Fitting your parts in Porirua

Everything we sell is designed for DIY fitting. Bullbars, rock sliders and driving lights go on with hand tools, a jack or stands and a second set of hands. If you don't have the time or the space, take your parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician — any of them can bolt on a bar or wire in lights. Lift kits are easier with a hoist, and you must book a wheel alignment after any suspension work so your tyres wear evenly and the truck tracks straight on the motorway.

Porirua 4x4 FAQs

Do you deliver to Porirua?

Yes. We deliver right across Porirua, including Tītahi Bay, Elsdon, Cannons Creek, Waitangirua, Whitby, Pāuatahanui, Paremata, Plimmerton, Mana and Pukerua Bay. Smaller parts travel by courier and bullbars go by freight.

Do you have a store in Porirua?

No — Kren Bits is online only, with no shopfronts anywhere. Order through the website or call us on 021 288 6816 and we'll help you choose the right part.

What's the most popular bullbar for Porirua utes?

Store-wide, our best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux. Those three cover a large share of the utes around Porirua.

Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?

Yes. Our bars and kits bolt on and come with fitting hardware. A bullbar is a two-person job with basic tools; a lift kit is more involved and is easiest with a hoist. Either way, get a wheel alignment after the suspension is done.

Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Porirua?

Fit it yourself if you have the tools, or take the kit to your local mechanic or 4x4 workshop — any of them can bolt it in and arrange the wheel alignment.

Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?

Our 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you modify further.
