4x4 parts delivered to Cambridge
Cambridge sits on the banks of the Waikato River about 24km south-east of Hamilton, and with an estimated 22,700 people it has grown quickly over the last few years. It calls itself the Town of Trees and Champions, and the champions part is no idle boast. Cambridge is known as the equine capital of New Zealand, with thoroughbred studs and stables that have produced champion racehorses and show jumpers, and the equine industry provides more than 600 jobs in the Waikato. Dairy is the other big employer, providing more than one in ten jobs across the Waipā District.
That shapes the kind of 4x4 you see around town. A Cambridge ute is often a towing vehicle first: horse floats on the way to a race meeting or a show, a boat trailer heading for Lake Karapiro, or a stock trailer on the back roads out towards the Kaimai Range. Each June, Fieldays at Mystery Creek, between Cambridge and Hamilton, draws more than 100,000 visitors to what its organisers call the biggest agricultural trade show in the southern hemisphere. A truck that tows a loaded float every week needs a front end that copes with the extra weight and suspension that stays level under load.
Orders to Cambridge go by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars travel by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the exact part number before anything leaves the warehouse.

Bullbars for Cambridge drivers
Our bullbars come from Rockarmor, a steel bar range designed around the vehicles New Zealanders actually drive. The GT Hoop replaces the factory bumper with a powder-coated steel bar, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounting points for a winch and driving lights, and brackets made for each model. If your ute spends its mornings on rural roads between Cambridge, Karapiro and the studs, that protection pays for itself the first time something steps out in front of you.
Rockarmor bars that suit the utes and wagons common around Cambridge:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota LandCruiser 200 2007–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Prado 150 2009–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
Fitting a steel bar is a two-person job, but not a hard one. The factory bumper comes off, the bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any parking sensors are moved across. If you would rather not do it at home, any Cambridge mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it for you. Add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch for pulling a float or trailer out of a wet paddock, and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for the dark winter drives home from an evening meeting.
Lift kits for Cambridge 4x4s
A steel bar adds weight over the front axle and a heavy float pushes the back down, so a lot of Cambridge owners sort the suspension at the same time as the bar. We stock two lift kit brands, each suited to a different kind of truck.
RAW 4x4 kits are our pick for modern utes and wagons. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options that match how the vehicle is used, from a light daily driver to a truck that tows every weekend. Good choices for Cambridge:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Prado 150 2009–2023
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota LandCruiser 76/78/79 Series
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Mazda BT-50 2020+
Ultima 4x4 covers older and less common 4x4s, including the station hacks and second vehicles that still do the farm jobs:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — VW Amarok 2010–2024
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux LN110/160/170 1997–2005
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Mitsubishi Pajero V7#
A lift kit is a bolt-in job for a mechanic with a hoist, and it always needs a wheel alignment afterwards. Kits in the 2-inch range are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you buy.
Popular 4x4s in Cambridge and Waipā
Because towing matters so much here, the bigger wagons and utes are well represented. LandCruiser 200 owners pulling horse floats can pair the LandCruiser 200 bullbar with good lighting, while 70 Series owners can look at the LandCruiser 79 lift kit. The Prado is a common family tow vehicle, and both the Prado 150 bullbar and the Prado lift kit suit it. On the farm side you'll find plenty of Hiluxes, from late-model trucks wearing a Hilux bullbar to older N70s ready for a 2012–2015 Hilux GT Hoop. Ford owners can fit the Ranger PX2/PX3 bullbar, Mitsubishi drivers have the Triton lift kit, and Isuzu owners can lift with the D-Max 2012–2017 lift kit.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Cambridge
Thompsons Track (Kaimai Range). A well-used 4WD route within reach of Cambridge is Thompsons Track, which starts off Thompson Road about 12km south of Te Aroha and crosses the Kaimai Range towards Katikati. It is a legal paper road. Matamata-Piako District Council owns the western side up to the summit, about 6km, and the council says 4WDs and motorbikes have used it for decades. Heavy use has worn it badly, so the council closes it to some or all vehicles for repairs, and slips on the eastern side have cut the through route to the Bay of Plenty. Side tracks lead onto private land. Check the council's track page for the current status before you go.
Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park. The Kaimai Range, rising behind Matamata, is protected as the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, about 37,000 hectares stretching from the Karangahake Gorge to near Rotorua and forming the barrier between the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty. It's mostly a park for tramping and hunting, so think of your 4x4 as the way to reach the road ends rather than as something to drive inside the park.
Lake Karapiro and the river. Just off State Highway 1 south-west of town, Lake Karapiro was formed in 1947 when the Waikato River was dammed. It is one of the world's best-regarded rowing lakes and hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1978 and 2010.
Pureora Forest Park (further south). If you want public forest roads, DOC's Pureora Forest Park is worth the drive. DOC describes Select Loop Road, reached from Waitaramoa Road off SH30, as an easy drive on formed metalled roads, and says the King Country 4WD group works with DOC to open and maintain 4WD tracks for public access nearby. There's no fuel at Pureora, so fill up first.
Clubs. Cambridge sits between several NZFWDA-affiliated clubs. In Hamilton there's the Waikato Four Wheel Drive Club, which meets at the Scouting Hall on Storey Avenue, and Cozzie Four Wheelers at the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club. The Kaimai 4x4 Club is based at Hinuera near Matamata, and the South Waikato 4WD Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Tīrau Hall. Joining a club is the easiest way onto private and forestry land, where access always needs the owner's or forest manager's permission.
Fitting your parts in Cambridge
Kren Bits parts are designed for DIY. Bullbars, rock sliders and driving lights bolt to the factory mounting points with the hardware supplied, and plenty of owners fit them in the shed or the stable yard with a mate to help. If you would rather not, take your parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician in Cambridge. Book a wheel alignment after any suspension work, and check your tow setup once the new springs have settled.

What's the most popular bullbar for Cambridge utes?
The best-selling Rockarmor bars store-wide include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.
Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?
A bullbar is usually a two-person bolt-on job with basic tools. Lift kits bolt in too, but they're easier with a hoist and spring compressors, and they always need a wheel alignment afterwards.
Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Cambridge?
Take it to your local mechanic or 4x4 workshop in Cambridge. Any competent workshop can fit RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 kits and book the alignment at the same time.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier.
