4x4 Parts & Accessories in Hastings
Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Hastings and the Heretaunga Plains — Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. There's no Kren Bits counter in Hastings: we're an online-only New Zealand store, so you order on the website, we send the parts to you, and you fit them at home or have your local mechanic do it. Our bullbars and lift kits are bolt-on, come with their fitting hardware, and are chosen for the utes that work the orchards, vineyards and hill country around the city.
4x4 parts delivered to Hastings
Hastings is the food bowl of Hawke's Bay. Around 49,800 people live in the city including Flaxmere, and the wider district is home to about 88,000. The plains around it grow stone fruit, apples and pears, kiwifruit and vegetables, and the district is one of New Zealand's major red wine producers, with food processing, agricultural services and freight close behind. In a place like that the ute is a work tool first: towing trailers between blocks, carrying bins and sprayer gear, then heading for the coast or the back country at the weekend. Those jobs are hard on the front end and the springs, which is why a bullbar and a lift are the two upgrades Hastings owners ask about most.
We send orders to Hastings, Flaxmere, Mahora, Akina, Camberley, Parkvale, St Leonards, Mayfair and Raureka by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars go by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before it ships, so you don't end up with a bar for the wrong year of Hilux or Ranger.

Bullbars for Hastings drivers
Every bullbar we sell is a Rockarmor — a steel bar range built for the trucks that dominate New Zealand roads. The Rockarmor GT Hoop is a full replacement for the factory bumper, finished in powder-coated steel, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounts for a winch and driving lights, and brackets made for each specific model.
Rockarmor bullbars that suit the utes working around Hastings:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N70 2012–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Mitsubishi Triton MR
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
Fitting one is a two-person job rather than a difficult one. The original bumper is removed, the bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any parking sensors are moved over. If you'd prefer not to do it on the driveway, any Hastings mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it for you. For a complete front end, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights — handy on unlit rural roads before dawn in picking season.
Lift kits for Hastings 4x4s
A steel bar and winch add a lot of weight up front, and a working ute with a loaded deck sags at the back too. That's why many owners fit a lift kit alongside the bar. We sell two brands.
RAW 4x4 kits suit modern utes and wagons. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load ratings to match how you use the truck — mostly empty, or carrying and towing every day. Good matches for Hastings vehicles:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Isuzu D-Max 2012–2017
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota LandCruiser 76/78/79 Series
Ultima 4x4 covers older farm trucks and less common 4x4s:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux LN105/106 1989–1997
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Mazda Courier/B2600 1985–2006
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — VW Amarok 2010–2024
A lift kit bolts in, but it's best done on a hoist, and it always needs a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles; bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier first.
Popular 4x4s in Hastings and the Heretaunga Plains
The Toyota Hilux is the backbone of Hastings orchard and farm fleets, and the N70 and N80 generations are both well covered — see the Hilux N70 2005–2011 bullbar and the Hilux N70 lift kit. The Ford Ranger is just as common, and the Ranger bullbar for the PX2/PX3 is one of our core bars. Contractors favour the Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton — there's a Triton lift kit for the MR/MV — while the LandCruiser 70 still does heavy station work in the hills. For family wagons, the Prado takes a Prado 150 GT Hoop, and older Navara D22 owners can lift theirs with the Ultima D22 kit.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Hastings
Cape Kidnappers. The beach route out toward the Cape Kidnappers gannet colony runs on a tide window, so vehicles have to time their trip in and out around low tide. Treat it as a coastal drive where the sea sets the timetable, not a casual beach blast.
Waimārama Beach. Hastings District Council allows vehicles on Waimārama Beach, but a section of the beach has a seasonal ban between 8am and 8pm from Labour Weekend to 30 April each year. Police enforce the bylaw, and the council has consulted on wider changes, so check the current rules on the council website before you drive on the sand.
Back roads of Hastings District. The newtracs trail map lists dozens of unsealed and unformed roads across the district, from Whakahu Road and Ridge Road to Aropaoanui Road toward the northern coast. Further inland, the Napier–Taihape Road leads to Kuripapango and Comet Road, which DOC describes as a 3.3km 4WD track into the southern Kaweka Forest Park. Unformed legal roads can cross private farmland, so stay on the formed line and leave gates as you find them.
Rivers and stopbanks. The Ngaruroro River passes close to the city, but vehicle access to it has been cut back. Hawke's Bay Regional Council fully closed the Ormond Road access and restricted vehicle access at Carrick Road, Chesterhope (Pākōwhai) and the lower Ngaruroro opposite Hohepa on SH2, after rubbish, burnt-out cars, stock theft and fires. The council also warns that 4WDs driving on stopbanks weaken flood protection, so use legal access points and keep off the banks.
Clubs. Hawke's Bay has two clubs affiliated with the NZ Four Wheel Drive Association. The Hawkes Bay 4WD Club has a Hastings postal address and meets at The Gintrap on West Quay, Ahuriri, and the Twin City Four Wheel Drive Club meets at the Taradale RSA. Both are a good route onto private land, organised trips and the local knowledge that keeps you out of trouble.
Fitting your parts in Hastings
Our parts are made for DIY fitting, and every bullbar and lift kit comes with its fitting hardware. If you'd rather not do it yourself, take the parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician — fitting a bar and wiring in lights or a winch is everyday work for them. After any suspension job, book a wheel alignment before you head back out.
Hastings 4x4 FAQs
Do you deliver to Hastings?
Yes — across Hastings and Flaxmere, plus Havelock North, Clive, Haumoana, Napier and the rural areas around them. Smaller parts travel by courier and bullbars go by freight.
Do you have a store in Hastings?
No — Kren Bits is online only, with no shopfront in Hastings or elsewhere. Order online or call us on 021 288 6816 for help picking the right part.
What's the most popular bullbar for Hastings utes?
Across the whole store, our best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.
Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?
Yes, if you're comfortable with tools. A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on. A lift kit needs proper stands or a hoist and spring compressors, and an alignment afterwards.
Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Hastings?
Any local mechanic or 4x4 workshop can fit it. Have the kit delivered to you, then book it in with your usual mechanic.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier.
