4x4 Parts & Accessories in Hawke's Bay
Kren Bits sends 4x4 parts and accessories right across Hawke's Bay, from Wairoa in the north to the farm towns of Central Hawke's Bay, including Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. We're an online New Zealand store with no shopfronts in the region. You order online, we send the parts to you, and you fit them yourself or take them to your local mechanic. Our bars and kits are bolt-on and come with their fitting hardware.
Towns we deliver to in Hawke's Bay
These pages cover the local vehicles, nearby tracks and clubs for each area:
- 4x4 parts in Napier: the port city, the Esk Valley and the gravel roads toward the Kaweka Range.
- 4x4 parts in Hastings: the Heretaunga Plains, orchard and vineyard utes, and the back roads of Hastings District.
- 4x4 parts in Havelock North: Te Mata Peak, the lower Tukituki River and the lifestyle blocks around the village.
We also deliver to Hawke's Bay's smaller towns and rural addresses:
- Wairoa: northern Hawke's Bay's only town and main rural service centre, on SH2 about 118km north-east of Napier, where the AFFCO meat plant is a major employer and farms are increasingly turning to forestry.
- Waipukurau: a farming town of about 4,700 on the banks of the Tukituki River, roughly 50km south-west of Hastings.
- Waipawa: about 7km north-east of Waipukurau on the Waipawa River, home of the Central Hawke's Bay District Council's main office and described as New Zealand's oldest inland European settlement.
- Clive: a small, growing town about 10km from both Napier and Hastings near the mouth of Te Awa o Mokotūāraro (the old Clive River), where new subdivisions are going in among the rural blocks.
Smaller parts go by courier and bullbars travel by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before anything is sent, or call 021 288 6816.
Bullbars for Hawke's Bay utes
Our bullbars are made by Rockarmor, a powder-coated steel range built for the vehicles New Zealanders drive. The GT Hoop replaces the factory bumper, has hoops that protect the grille and headlights, and carries mounts for a winch and driving lights. Bars that suit the utes and wagons common across Hawke's Bay:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Mitsubishi Triton MR
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
For trips into the ranges, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights. Hilux N80 owners heading off-road can also fit Rockarmor rock sliders to protect the sills.
Lift kits for Hawke's Bay 4x4s
RAW 4x4 2-inch kits come with coils, leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options for modern utes and wagons. Examples include the Hilux N80, Navara D40, LandCruiser 76/78/79 and Prado 150 kits. Ultima 4x4 covers older farm trucks and less common vehicles, such as the Hilux LN110/160/170, Navara D22 and Pajero V7#.
Kits around 2 inches are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier. Every lift needs a wheel alignment afterwards.
4x4 tracks and clubs across Hawke's Bay
Kaweka Forest Park. North-west of Napier, the Kawekas have alpine shrublands, tussock valleys and beech forest, and DOC recommends 4WD vehicles on the access roads. Kaweka Road is about 64km west of Napier off Whittle Road, and Comet Road, off the Napier–Taihape Road 7km west of Kuripapango, is a 3.3km 4WD track toward the Kaikomata Range. River crossings on Lotkow Road change often, and some car parks are closed by forestry operations, so check DOC's page before you go.
Back roads and unformed roads. The newtracs trail map lists 59 trails in Hawke's Bay, most of them unsealed or unformed roads, from Whakahu Road and Aropaoanui Road in Hastings District to Te Apiti Road North and Wilder Road in Central Hawke's Bay and Devers Road and Waikare Road in Wairoa District. Many cross farmland, so stay on the road line and leave gates as you find them.
Te Urewera and SH38. From Wairoa, State Highway 38 heads north-west past Lake Waikaremoana, and Wairoa is the nearest town to Te Urewera. About 74km of SH38 is still unsealed, between Te Whaiti and Āniwaniwa, so it's a long gravel drive that rewards good tyres and suspension.
Beaches and rivers. Hastings District Council allows vehicles on Waimārama Beach, but a section is closed to vehicles from 8am to 8pm between Labour Weekend and 30 April. River access has tightened in places: in 2019 Hawke's Bay Regional Council closed vehicle access to the Tūtaekurī River at Guppy Road in Taradale after rubbish dumping, stock theft and burnt-out cars, and it asks drivers to keep to designated tracks on stopbanks. In 2023 it warned that anyone caught damaging stopbanks could face fines, after 4WDs drove over a bank at Dartmoor.
Clubs. The NZ Four Wheel Drive Association lists two affiliated clubs in Hawke's Bay: the Hawkes Bay 4WD Club, which meets at The Gintrap on West Quay, Ahuriri, and the Twin City Four Wheel Drive Club, which meets at the Taradale RSA. Most of the region's best country is private farmland, and a club trip is the way in.
Fitting your parts
Everything we sell is designed for DIY and comes with fitting hardware. A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on job. If you'd rather not fit parts yourself, take them to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician anywhere in Hawke's Bay. Book a wheel alignment after any suspension work.
