4x4 Parts & Accessories in Havelock North

Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Havelock North, from the village centre out to the vineyards, orchards and lifestyle blocks under Te Mata Peak. We sell Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. We're an online-only New Zealand store with no Havelock North shop: you order on the website, we send the parts to your door, and you fit them yourself or take them to your local mechanic. Our bars and kits are bolt-on parts, supplied with their fitting hardware, so a handy owner or any local workshop can put them on.

4x4 parts delivered to Havelock North

Havelock North is home to about 15,000 people (15,003 at the 2023 census) and sits less than 2km south-east of Hastings at the foot of Te Mata Peak. Locals call it "the village", and while most residents commute to Hastings or Napier for work, the town itself is ringed by orchards and vineyards, with fruit and wine at the heart of the local economy. Much of the housing on the edges of town is rural-residential, so plenty of households run a ute or wagon that commutes during the week, then tows a horse float or moves fencing gear around a lifestyle block at the weekend. Gravel driveways chip at the front end and a loaded trailer sags the rear springs, which is why a bullbar and a modest lift are the usual upgrades.

We deliver to every part of Havelock North, including Lucknow, Karanema, St Hill, Brookvale, Iona, Hereworth, Te Mata Hills and Havelock Hills, and out to rural addresses in the hills behind the town. Smaller parts travel by courier, and bullbars travel by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before anything is sent.

Bullbars for Havelock North drivers

Our bullbars come from Rockarmor, a steel bar range designed around the utes and four-wheel drives that fill New Zealand driveways. The Rockarmor GT Hoop replaces the factory bumper with a powder-coated steel bar, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounting points for a winch and driving lights, and brackets made for each model rather than a generic fit.

Rockarmor bullbars that suit the utes and wagons around Havelock North:

Fitting a steel bar is a two-person job rather than a hard one. The factory bumper and its supports come off, the bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any parking sensors move across. If you'd rather not do it in the garage, any Havelock North mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it. Add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for the unlit roads out toward the coast.

Lift kits for Havelock North 4x4s

A steel bar adds weight over the front axle, and a ute that tows a float or carries a full deck sits low at the back. That's why a lot of owners lift the suspension at the same time as they fit a bar. We sell two brands of lift kit.

RAW 4x4 kits suit current and recent utes and wagons. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options so you can match the kit to how the vehicle is used, whether that's mostly empty or towing most weekends. Good picks for Havelock North:

Ultima 4x4 covers vehicles that are less common or a few years older:

Lift kits bolt in, but they're best fitted on a hoist and they always need a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles; bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you fit anything.

Popular 4x4s in Havelock North

The Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux are the workhorses here, as they are across Hawke's Bay. A Ranger bullbar for the PX2/PX3 or a Hilux bullbar for the N80 is the usual starting point, often paired with a Hilux lift kit. Older block trucks are covered too, with the GT Hoop for the Hilux N70 2005–2011.

Havelock North is also wagon country. The Toyota Prado and LandCruiser 200 tow horse floats, boats and caravans, and a Prado lift kit with the right load rating helps a lot when the towbar is working. Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton and VW Amarok owners are covered as well, with the Triton MQ bullbar, the D-Max bar above and the Ultima Amarok lift kit.

4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Havelock North

Te Mata Peak. The 399m peak behind the village is the town's landmark, and Te Mata Park is about 5km or 10 minutes' drive away. The main route follows Te Mata Road, Simla Avenue and Te Mata Peak Road up to the summit, and the lower Tauroa Road car park is reached via Duart Road. It's a sealed road, not an off-road track. The park closes the upper section of Te Mata Peak Road above Peak House to vehicles from 10pm to 5.30am every day.

The Tukituki River. The Tukituki runs down from Central Hawke's Bay past Waipukurau and Patangata, and its lower reaches near Haumoana are the closest river country to Havelock North. Fish & Game's access listing shows a gravel track on the true right just upstream of the Waimārama Road bridge, and rough vehicle tracks at the Smalls access through the cattle yards about 1km downstream, where the papa bedrock can be very slippery in summer. Further up, the Kahuranaki Road access points cross private land, so ask the landowner first, and Rowe Road, about 17km south of Havelock North off Middle Road, is foot access only. Hawke's Bay Regional Council asks drivers to keep vehicles to designated tracks on stopbanks, and some access gates are locked, though you're welcome to walk in from the gate.

Waimārama and Ocean Beach. Waimārama Beach is about 20 minutes' drive from Havelock North. Hastings District Council allows vehicles on the beach, but a section is closed to vehicles from 8am to 8pm between Labour Weekend and 30 April, and police enforce the bylaw. The council has also trialled a gate at the Airini Road vehicle entrance to discourage driving on the sand, so check the latest rules before you go. Ocean Beach, between Cape Kidnappers and Waimārama, is reached by a road from Havelock North, and the one-way road down to the beach is steep, so take it slowly with a trailer on.

The Kaweka Range. For a proper back-country trip, Kaweka Forest Park lies north-west of Napier, and DOC recommends 4WD vehicles on its access roads. Check DOC's page first, as some car parks are closed by forestry operations.

Clubs. Two NZ Four Wheel Drive Association clubs cover Hawke's Bay. The Hawkes Bay 4WD Club has a Hastings postal address and meets at The Gintrap on West Quay, Ahuriri, and the Twin City Four Wheel Drive Club meets at the Taradale RSA. A club is the best way onto private hill country.

Fitting your parts in Havelock North

Everything we sell is designed for DIY fitting with ordinary tools, and every bullbar and lift kit comes with its fitting hardware. If you'd rather hand it over, take the parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician. A bullbar is a straightforward bolt-on, and wiring in lights or a winch is everyday work for an auto-electrician. After any suspension work, book a wheel alignment before the vehicle goes back on the road.

Havelock North 4x4 FAQs

Do you deliver to Havelock North?

Yes. We deliver right across Havelock North, including Brookvale, Iona, Hereworth, Te Mata Hills and Havelock Hills, plus Hastings, Clive, Haumoana, Waimārama and rural addresses in the hills around them. Smaller parts go by courier and bullbars travel by freight.

Do you have a store in Havelock North?

No. Kren Bits is online only and has no shopfront in Havelock North or anywhere else. Order on the website or call us on 021 288 6816 and we'll help you pick the right part.

What's the most popular bullbar for Hawke's Bay utes?

Store-wide, the best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.

Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?

Yes, if you're comfortable with tools. A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on job. A lift kit needs spring compressors and a hoist or solid stands, plus a wheel alignment afterwards, so many owners have a workshop do that part.

Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Havelock North?

Your local mechanic or any 4x4 workshop can fit our kits. Have the kit delivered to your home, then book it in with the mechanic you already use.

Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?

2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you fit anything.
