4x4 Parts & Accessories in Napier
Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Napier and the rest of Hawke's Bay — Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. We're an online New Zealand store with no Napier shopfront: you order on the website, the gear is sent to your door, and you fit it yourself or hand it to your local mechanic. The bullbars and lift kits we sell for the utes and wagons Napier people drive are bolt-on parts, supplied with their fitting hardware, and picked so a capable home mechanic or any local workshop can install them without fuss.
4x4 parts delivered to Napier
Napier is a port city of about 66,000 people, best known for its Art Deco streets, rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake. Behind the tourist postcards sits a working economy: the port, wool, fruit and wine all run through the city, and that means a lot of utes. Some of them tow boats, some cart picking bins and gear out to orchards and vineyards in the Esk Valley and around Bay View, and plenty head inland most weekends on the long gravel roads toward the Kaweka Range for hunting, fishing and camping. Protection and suspension are the upgrades that matter for that kind of use — a bullbar for stock and gravel roads, and a lift that copes with a bar, a winch and a loaded deck.
Orders to Napier, Taradale, Greenmeadows, Westshore and Meeanee travel by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars travel by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before anything is sent — the classic mistake is buying a bar or kit for the wrong model year, especially on utes that had a facelift halfway through a generation.

Bullbars for Napier drivers
Our bullbars are made by Rockarmor, a steel bullbar brand designed around the trucks New Zealanders actually own. The Rockarmor GT Hoop replaces the factory bumper with a powder-coated steel bar, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounting points for a winch and driving lights, and model-specific brackets rather than a universal fit.
Rockarmor bullbars that suit common Napier utes and wagons:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Mitsubishi Triton MQ 2015–2018
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Prado 150 2009–2015
Fitting a steel bar takes two people but isn't complicated. The factory bumper and its supports come off, the bar bolts onto the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any parking sensors move across to the new bar. If you'd rather not tackle it in the driveway, any Napier mechanic or auto-electrician can do the job. To finish the front end, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and a pair of Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for the drive home from the ranges after dark.
Lift kits for Napier 4x4s
A steel bar and winch put real weight on the front springs, so many owners lift the suspension at the same time to get the ride height and load capacity back. We sell two lift kit brands, each suited to a different kind of vehicle.
RAW 4x4 is the choice for current and recent utes. Each 2-inch (about 50mm) kit pairs front coils and rear leaf springs with nitrogen-charged shocks, and comes in load options to match how the truck is used — light duty around town, or towing a boat and carrying weight most days. Popular kits for Napier vehicles:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Mitsubishi Triton MR/MV 2018–2024
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Prado 150 2009–2023
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Mazda BT-50 2020+
Ultima 4x4 covers older and less common 4x4s that are still doing honest work around Hawke's Bay:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux LN110/160/170 1997–2005
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Nissan Navara D22 1999–2015
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux Surf 180 1996–2002
Lift kits bolt in, but they're a job for a hoist, and every one needs a wheel alignment once it's fitted. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles; bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you fit anything.
Popular 4x4s in Napier
The Toyota Hilux is everywhere in Hawke's Bay, from orchard runabouts to weekend hunting trucks, and a Hilux bullbar with a matching Hilux lift kit is the classic pairing. The Ford Ranger is the other big seller, and the Ranger PX2/PX3 GT Hoop suits the generation most commonly seen on Napier roads. Tradies and contractors run plenty of Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton utes, and we carry the Triton MR GT Hoop as well as the D-Max bar above. For older trucks, the Navara D40 lift kit and the LandCruiser 70 76/78/79 Series lift kit are worth a look, and the Prado remains a favourite family wagon for trips into the ranges.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Napier
Kaweka Forest Park. North-west of Napier, Kaweka Forest Park has alpine shrublands, tussock valleys and beech forest, plus hunting, fishing and hot springs. DOC recommends 4WD vehicles on its access roads. Kaweka Road is about 64km west of Napier off Whittle Road and leads to Ferny Ridge, Littles Clearing and the Black Birch Range, while Makahu Road, about 72km west, takes you toward Makahu Saddle, the jump-off for Kaweka J. Some car parks are closed by forestry operations, so check DOC's park page before you go, and be ready for sudden weather changes on the tops.
Comet Road and the Napier–Taihape Road. Further south, Comet Road leaves the Napier–Taihape Road about 7km west of Kuripapango, roughly 83km from Napier. DOC describes it as a 3.3km 4WD track giving access to the Kaikomata Range and the southern Kawekas. It's a proper backcountry drive, so go with a second vehicle and recovery gear.
Tūtira and northern Hawke's Bay. North of the city along SH2, the Tūtira area has a wildlife refuge, native forest and camping on the shores of Lake Tūtira. The farm country around it has hosted organised events such as the Hereworth 4WD Trek, based on Matahoura Road at Tūtira, which ran through rolling hills to high country with water and mud along the way. Private station treks like this are the best way to drive farmland legally — you can't just turn onto a farm track without the owner's say-so.
River access near the city. The Tūtaekurī and Ngaruroro rivers run either side of Napier, but vehicle access has tightened. Hawke's Bay Regional Council closed vehicle access to the Tūtaekurī at Guppy Road in Taradale in 2019 because of rubbish dumping, stock theft and burnt-out cars, and has restricted several Ngaruroro access points. The council also warns that driving on stopbanks weakens flood protection, so stay off them and use legal access points only.
Clubs. Napier has two clubs affiliated with the NZ Four Wheel Drive Association. The Twin City Four Wheel Drive Club meets at the Taradale RSA, and the Hawkes Bay 4WD Club meets at The Gintrap on West Quay in Ahuriri. Joining a club is the easiest way onto private land and organised trips, and the best place to learn recovery skills from people who know the local country.
Fitting your parts in Napier
Everything we sell is designed for DIY fitting with ordinary hand tools, and each bullbar and lift kit arrives with its fitting hardware. If you'd rather not do it yourself, take the parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician — a bullbar is a straightforward bolt-on, and wiring lights or a winch is routine work for any auto-electrician. After any suspension work, book a wheel alignment before the truck goes back on the road.
Napier 4x4 FAQs
Do you deliver to Napier?
Yes. We deliver across Napier, including Taradale, Greenmeadows, Ahuriri, Westshore, Bay View and Meeanee, as well as Hastings, Havelock North and Clive. Smaller parts go by courier and bullbars travel by freight.
Do you have a store in Napier?
No — Kren Bits is online only and has no shopfront in Napier or anywhere else. Order on the website or call us on 021 288 6816 and we'll help you choose the right part.
What's the most popular bullbar for Hawke's Bay utes?
Store-wide, our best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.
Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?
Yes, if you're handy with tools. A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on job. A lift kit needs spring compressors and a hoist or good stands, and a wheel alignment afterwards, so many owners hand that part to a workshop.
Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Napier?
Any local mechanic or 4x4 workshop can fit our kits. Order the kit to your home, then book it in with the mechanic you already trust.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you fit anything.
