4x4 Parts & Accessories in Queenstown
Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Queenstown and the Wakatipu Basin, including Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. We sell online only and have no Queenstown shop. You order on the website, we send the parts to your door, and you fit them yourself or have your local mechanic do it. The bars and kits we carry for Wakatipu utes and wagons are bolt-on and come with their fitting hardware, so a capable home mechanic or any local workshop can install them.
4x4 parts delivered to Queenstown
Queenstown has around 29,000 people in its urban area and close to 54,000 across the wider Queenstown-Lakes District, and almost all of its work comes from tourism, adventure operators and the ski fields. A lot of four-wheel drives in the basin are working vehicles: tour and shuttle wagons, trade utes on the building sites around Frankton, Lake Hayes Estate, Shotover Country and Jack's Point, and private trucks used for ski fields, high country roads and lake access in winter. Gravel shelf roads, river fords and steep driveways are hard on a vehicle, which is why steel front protection and extra suspension height make sense here.
Orders to Queenstown come by courier through our New Zealand network, and large items like bullbars come by freight. Send us your vehicle details and we'll confirm the correct part number before we dispatch anything.

Bullbars for Queenstown drivers
Most of our bullbars are Rockarmor, a steel bar range built for the utes and wagons New Zealanders drive. The Rockarmor GT Hoop replaces the whole factory bumper. It's made from powder-coated steel, has hoops that protect the grille and headlights, includes winch and driving-light mounts, and is designed for one specific model instead of using a universal bracket. On narrow gravel roads and dark winter mornings, a strong front end and good lights are worth having.
Rockarmor bullbars that suit the vehicles common around Queenstown:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar: Toyota Hilux 2022 on (widebody)
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar: Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar: Next Gen Ford Ranger
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar: Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar: Toyota Prado 150 2009–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar: Toyota LandCruiser 200 2007–2015
Fitting a steel bullbar needs two people but isn't complicated. The factory bumper comes off, the new bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any parking sensors move across to it. If you'd rather not do it in the garage, any Queenstown mechanic or auto-electrician can do the job. For a full front-end setup, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and a pair of Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights.
Lift kits for Queenstown 4x4s
A steel bar, a winch and recovery gear put real weight over the front axle, and river fords and rutted climbs reward better clearance. That's why many owners fit a lift kit at the same time as the bar. We sell two lift kit brands.
RAW 4x4 is our first pick for current utes and wagons. Each 2-inch (about 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load ratings to suit how the vehicle is used, from a lightly loaded daily driver to one that carries gear and tows all the time. Popular choices for Wakatipu vehicles:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit: Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit: Toyota Prado 150 2009–2023
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit: LandCruiser 76/78/79 Series
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit: Mazda BT-50 2020 on
Ultima 4x4 covers many older and less common four-wheel drives that are still popular for weekend trips:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit: VW Amarok 2010–2024
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit: Toyota FJ Cruiser 2006–2010
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit: Hilux Surf 180 Series 1996–2002
Fitting a lift kit is a bolt-in job for a mechanic with a hoist, and the vehicle always needs a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. If you plan a bigger lift, a body lift or oversized tyres, you may need LVV certification, so talk to a certifier before you fit anything.
Popular 4x4s in Queenstown and the Wakatipu
The Toyota Hilux is as common on Queenstown building sites as anywhere in the country. For a current model, look at the widebody Hilux bullbar, and N80 owners can pair a Hilux bullbar with a Hilux lift kit. Ford Ranger drivers can choose between the Next Gen Ranger bullbar and the PX2/PX3 Ranger bullbar.
Wagons do much of the tour, family and ski-season driving here. For the Prado, our Prado bullbar and Prado lift kit both suit the 150 Series. LandCruiser 200 owners can fit the LandCruiser 200 bullbar, and the 70 Series has the LandCruiser 79 lift kit. For older trucks there's the Amarok lift kit and the FJ Cruiser lift kit.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Queenstown
Skippers Road. Skippers Road was built in stages between about 1883 and 1890 to reach the Shotover goldfields. It is mostly one lane, narrow and steep, and has sheer drops to the Shotover River and very little room to pass. It is a Heritage New Zealand listed road, and rental car companies don't allow their vehicles on it. In January 2026 Queenstown Lakes District Council closed the historic Skippers Bridge to all vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians until further notice after it found failures in the suspension cables. That cuts off vehicle access to the Skippers Point township ruins, the old school and the cemetery beyond the bridge. Check QLDC's latest update before you plan a trip.
Macetown. The Macetown 4WD track runs about 15km from Arrowtown to the historic gold town, crosses the Arrow River and its tributaries 23 times with no bridges, and DOC does not maintain it. It is now managed through the Mahu Whenua 4WD Tracks Access Advisory Group, whose members include DOC, QLDC, the NZ Four Wheel Drive Association and the Shotover 4WD Club. Since 1 April 2026, 4WD vehicles and off-road motorbikes have needed an online permit for each trip, issued through permit.nzfwda.org.nz. The gate code is emailed 24 hours before entry, and vehicles must be registered and have a current WOF. QLDC residents can get an annual pass. DOC recommends going in daylight and good weather only, and it expects vehicles to be self-reliant, with recovery gear, off-road tyres and a snorkel or similar protection for the fords.
Nevis Road. Nevis Road runs from Bannockburn, near Cromwell, over Duffers Saddle (1,275m), which is described as the highest point on any public road in New Zealand, and comes out on State Highway 6 near Garston. The gorge section is signposted 4WD only and has more than 20 fords, and snow and ice can close the road in winter. Off Nevis Road, the DOC Nevis-Gibbston track climbs to Doolans Saddle (993m). It is for dry weather only, and a narrow section with a steep drop isn't suitable for novices. Several side tracks in the valley close from 15 October to 30 November each year for lambing.
High country stations. Much of the high country between Arrowtown and Lake Wānaka sits within Mahu Whenua, around 53,000 hectares of QEII covenants over the Coronet Peak, Glencoe, Mount Soho and Motatapu stations. Walkers and riders can use a large track network there, but vehicle access is limited and permit-controlled. On any station or pastoral lease land, stay on formed tracks, leave gates as you find them, and get permission before you drive anywhere that isn't a public road.
Clubs. The Shotover 4WD Club is Queenstown's NZFWDA-affiliated club. It runs a couple of trips a month, ranging from easy family outings to harder trips for experienced drivers, across Otago, the West Coast and Southland. The Central Otago Four Wheel Drive Club in Alexandra, also NZFWDA-affiliated, runs trips across the wider region.

Queenstown 4x4 FAQs
Do you deliver to Queenstown?
Yes. We deliver to addresses across Queenstown and the Wakatipu Basin, including Frankton, Kelvin Heights, Arthurs Point, Fernhill, Lake Hayes Estate, Shotover Country, Jack's Point, Arrowtown, Gibbston, Kingston and Glenorchy. Smaller parts come by courier, and bullbars come by freight.
Do you have a store in Queenstown?
No. Kren Bits is online only, with no shop in Queenstown or anywhere else. Order through the website, or call 021 288 6816 to check fitment before you buy.
What's the most popular bullbar for Queenstown utes?
Across the whole store, our best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3, the Premium bar for the Nissan Navara D40 and the GT Hoop range for the Toyota Hilux. Around Queenstown, the Hilux, Ranger, Prado and LandCruiser bars all suit the vehicles you see on local roads.
Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?
Yes, if you're comfortable with hand tools. A bullbar is a bolt-on job for two people. A lift kit is easier with a hoist and spring compressors, and it needs a wheel alignment afterwards.
Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Queenstown?
Any local mechanic or 4x4 workshop in the Wakatipu can fit a RAW 4x4 or Ultima 4x4 kit. Order the kit, have it delivered to the workshop you trust, and book the wheel alignment for the same visit.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before you modify the vehicle.
