4x4 Parts & Accessories in Paraparaumu
Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Paraparaumu and the southern Kāpiti Coast — Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. There's no Kren Bits shop on the coast: we're a New Zealand online store, so you order on the website, we send the parts to you, and you either fit them at home or take them to your local mechanic. The bars and kits we stock for common utes are bolt-on and supplied with fitting hardware, made so a confident DIYer or any local workshop can install them.
4x4 parts delivered to Paraparaumu
Paraparaumu is the biggest town on the Kāpiti Coast, with close to 29,000 people at the 2023 Census, about 51km north of Wellington. Together with Paraparaumu Beach and Raumati it works largely as a commuter base for the capital, linked by the Kāpiti Line and, since Transmission Gully opened, a much easier drive south. But behind the town and the Coastlands shopping centre, the land rises quickly into the Maungakotukutuku valley and the forest country that runs back towards Upper Hutt, and out the front is the Tasman Sea with Kapiti Island sitting offshore.
That mix shapes the trucks here. Plenty of Paraparaumu 4x4s tow a boat down to the beach launch, carry tools and materials for the trades, or head into the hills with a club at the weekend. The upgrades follow the use: a bullbar to protect the front of a truck that sees gravel and bush roads, and a lift kit to carry the extra weight of a bar, a winch and a loaded tray or towbar.
Orders to Paraparaumu arrive by courier through our New Zealand network, with bullbars and larger items going by freight. Give us your vehicle details and we'll confirm the exact part number before dispatch — the same ute often has several bar or kit options depending on model year and trim.

Bullbars for Paraparaumu drivers
We sell Rockarmor bullbars — a steel bar range designed for the trucks people drive in New Zealand. The Rockarmor GT Hoop is a full replacement bar in powder-coated steel, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights and mounting points ready for a winch and lights. Every bar is built for its specific model, so it bolts to that vehicle's chassis mounts properly instead of relying on a generic bracket kit.
Rockarmor bullbars suited to Kāpiti Coast utes and wagons:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Prado 150 2009–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota LandCruiser 200 2007–2015
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
Putting on a steel bullbar needs two people but no special skills. The factory bumper is removed, the bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and indicators and any parking sensors transfer across. If you'd rather not tackle it in the garage, any Paraparaumu mechanic or auto-electrician can do it. Complete the front end with a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for dark coast roads.
Lift kits for Paraparaumu 4x4s
Add a steel bar and winch and the front springs sag; hitch a boat trailer and the rear does the same. A lift kit restores the ride height and gives the suspension the capacity for that load. We carry two brands.
RAW 4x4 is our pick for current and recent utes. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options for trucks that run empty most days or tow and carry constantly. Kits that suit Kāpiti vehicles:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Prado 150 2009–2023
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Isuzu D-Max 2012–2017
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Mazda BT-50 2020+
Ultima 4x4 covers older and less common 4x4s that are still going strong on the coast:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux Surf 180 Series 1996–2002
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Mitsubishi Pajero V7# 2000+
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota FJ Cruiser 2006–2010
A lift kit bolts in but is easiest for a mechanic with a hoist, and it always needs a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles; bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier first.
Popular 4x4s in Paraparaumu and Kāpiti
The Kāpiti Coast has a strong showing of family wagons alongside the work utes. The Toyota Prado is a favourite tow vehicle for boats and caravans, and a Prado 150 bullbar paired with a Prado lift kit is a popular combination. Bigger rigs like the LandCruiser 200 use the LandCruiser 200 bullbar.
On the ute side, the Toyota Hilux leads — the Hilux N80 bullbar for later trucks and the 2005–2011 Hilux bar for older ones — followed by the Ford Ranger with its Ranger GT Hoop. Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton (the Triton lift kit suits MR/MV trucks) and Navara D40 owners make up much of the rest, with older Surfs and Pajeros still common around the beach suburbs.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Paraparaumu
Akatarawa Forest via Maungakotukutuku Road. Paraparaumu has its own doorway into the region's biggest off-road area. Maungakotukutuku Road, reached via Waterfall Road off SH1 between Paekākāriki and Paraparaumu, is one of the entrances to Akatarawa Forest — about 15,000 hectares of native and exotic forest stretching back to Upper Hutt and run by Greater Wellington Regional Council. It's the only Greater Wellington park that allows 4WDs, but access is controlled: each driver needs an individual permit through MyGW, and 4WD trips must be organised through the Akatarawa Recreational Access Committee (ARAC) with a certified trip leader. Stay on the mapped 4WD tracks and keep to 30km/h on forest roads. Greater Wellington has also run guided public 4WD trips from the Maungakotukutuku Road entrance as part of its summer events programme in the past.
Check for logging first. Maungakotukutuku Forest is a working plantation, and as of May 2026 Greater Wellington reported logging under way with no weekday public access. Always check the Akatarawa Forest page on gw.govt.nz for current closures before a trip.
Paraparaumu Beach and the boat launches. Kāpiti Coast District Council's Beach Bylaw keeps vehicles off most local beaches, and motorbikes are banned from all of them. On Paraparaumu Beach, vehicles are permitted at the Kāpiti Boating Club and Manly Street North accessways for launching and retrieving boats, with a 10km/h limit in accessways and launch areas. The nearest stretch where general beach driving is allowed is further north, on the foreshore from Olliver Grove in north Waikanae up to Te Horo, at 20km/h and never on the dunes.
Clubs. Paraparaumu is well served by NZFWDA-affiliated clubs. The Tararua 4WD Club meets at the Paraparaumu RSA, and the Kapiti Family 4WD Club is based at Waikanae Beach, a few minutes up the road. Further south, the Cross Country Vehicle Club (Wellington), Capital Cruisers, Windy City Off-Roaders and the Wellington Jeep Club are also affiliated. A club membership is the practical way to get onto the Akatarawa tracks with a certified trip leader.
Fitting your parts in Paraparaumu
Kren Bits parts are designed to be fitted at home. Bullbars, rock sliders and driving lights need hand tools, stands and a helper. If you'd rather not, take your parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician on the coast — they'll have it done quickly. Lift kits are best fitted on a hoist, and always book a wheel alignment after any suspension work.
Paraparaumu 4x4 FAQs
Do you deliver to Paraparaumu?
Yes — to Paraparaumu, Paraparaumu Beach, Raumati Beach, Raumati South, Otaihanga, Lindale and Paekākāriki, plus the rest of the Kāpiti Coast. Smaller parts come by courier and bullbars by freight.
Do you have a store in Paraparaumu?
No — Kren Bits is online only and has no shopfronts. Order on the website or call 021 288 6816 for help.
What's the most popular bullbar for Kāpiti utes?
Our best-selling Rockarmor bars store-wide include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.
Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?
Yes. Everything bolts on and comes with fitting hardware. A bullbar is a two-person job; a lift kit is more involved and easiest on a hoist. Get a wheel alignment after suspension work.
Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Paraparaumu?
Fit it yourself, or take the kit to your local mechanic or 4x4 workshop — any competent workshop can bolt it in and sort the alignment.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
Our 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification — check with a certifier.
