4x4 Parts & Accessories in Taranaki
Kren Bits sends 4x4 parts and accessories all over Taranaki, including Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. Taranaki covers about 7,250 square kilometres around Taranaki Maunga, and is home to around 130,000 people. Dairy farming, oil and gas and manufacturing drive the regional economy, and the ute is the vehicle that keeps all three moving. Kren Bits is an online New Zealand store with no shopfronts in the region: you order online, we send the parts to you, and you fit them yourself or take them to your local mechanic. Our bars and kits bolt on and come with fitting hardware.
Towns we deliver to in Taranaki
Our town page covers local vehicles, nearby tracks and clubs in detail:
- 4x4 parts in New Plymouth: the region's main city, Port Taranaki, the national park roads and the Forgotten World Highway.
We also deliver to Taranaki's smaller towns and rural addresses:
- Hāwera: the region's second-largest centre, about 75km south of New Plymouth, with Fonterra's Whareroa dairy factory just outside town.
- Stratford: the rural service town under the eastern slopes of the mountain, and the western start of State Highway 43.
- Waitara: about 15km north-east of New Plymouth on the Waitara River, where the Motunui and Waitara Valley petrochemical plants are major employers alongside farming.
- Inglewood: about 16km south-east of New Plymouth on SH3, serving a mainly dairy district, and the meeting place of the Mt Egmont 4Wheel Drive Club.
- Ōpunake: a coastal town on State Highway 45 between New Plymouth and Hāwera, with its own surf lifesaving club.
Smaller parts go by courier and bullbars go by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before anything is sent, or call 021 288 6816.
Bullbars for Taranaki utes
Our bullbars are made by Rockarmor, a powder-coated steel range built for the vehicles New Zealanders drive. The GT Hoop replaces the factory bumper, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights and mounts for a winch and driving lights. Bars that suit the utes and wagons common on Taranaki farms and roads:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N70 2005–2011
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
Add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch for farm and back-country recovery, and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for early starts and late finishes on unlit rural roads.
Lift kits for Taranaki 4x4s
RAW 4x4 2-inch kits come with coils, leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options for modern utes. Examples include the Hilux N80, Hilux N70, LandCruiser 76/78/79 and Triton MR/MV kits. Ultima 4x4 covers older and less common vehicles, such as the Hilux LN105/106, Navara D22 and Mazda Courier/B2600.
Kits around 2 inches are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier. Every lift needs a wheel alignment afterwards.
4x4 tracks and clubs across Taranaki
Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki. The former Egmont National Park took its new name on 1 April 2025, after Parliament recognised the mountain as a legal person, Taranaki Maunga. Egmont Road leads to North Egmont, Pembroke Road to Stratford Plateau and Manaia Road to Dawson Falls, while the west side has no access roads. The park has no off-road vehicle network, so the road ends are where the driving stops.
The Forgotten World Highway. State Highway 43 runs 148km from Stratford to Taumarunui over three saddles, past Whangamōmona and through the Moki Tunnel and Tangarakau Gorge. The gorge section was sealed in early 2025, ending its run as the country's only unsealed state highway, but the road is still very narrow in places.
Unsealed back roads. The newtracs trail map lists 67 4WD trails across Taranaki, mostly unsealed or unformed roads in Stratford, South Taranaki and New Plymouth districts, such as Waitara Valley Road, Rimuputa Road, Pukengahu Road and Kaimanuka Road. Many cross private farmland, so keep to the road line and leave gates as you find them.
Private land events. Farm country is where Taranaki's real off-roading happens, and events are the legal way in. In 2017, for example, the Okato Lions Club ran a 4WD trip across farmland among the conical hills near the Stony River.
Clubs. The NZ Four Wheel Drive Association lists two affiliated Taranaki clubs: the Mt Egmont 4Wheel Drive Club, which meets at the Inglewood Club on Moa Street, and the Taranaki Family 4x4 Club, which meets at members' homes alternating between North and South Taranaki. Both are the best route onto private land and organised trips.
Fitting your parts
Everything we sell is designed for DIY and comes with fitting hardware. A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on job. If you'd rather not fit parts yourself, take them to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician anywhere in Taranaki. Book a wheel alignment after any suspension work.
