4x4 Parts & Accessories in Tauranga
Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Pāpāmoa and the rest of the Western Bay of Plenty — Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. We aren't a Tauranga shop: Kren Bits is a New Zealand online store. You order on the website, we deliver to your home, orchard or work yard, and you fit the parts yourself or take them to your local mechanic. Every bar and kit we sell for the utes and wagons on Bay of Plenty roads is bolt-on and comes with its fitting hardware.
4x4 parts delivered to Tauranga
Tauranga has grown into New Zealand's fifth-largest city, with an estimated 161,000 people in 2025, and it's still growing fast. The city wraps around a harbour sheltered by Mauao and Matakana Island, and the Port of Tauranga is the country's largest port by export tonnage. Behind the city the countryside is mostly horticulture, with kiwifruit and avocado orchards running out towards Te Puke and Katikati and up into the foothills of the Kaimai Range.
That mix shapes how people use their 4x4s here. Orchard and contracting utes run between blocks on gravel races and towing trailers; tradies cross the city between Bethlehem, Greerton and Pāpāmoa; and plenty of families tow a boat to the ramps at the Mount or Pāpāmoa on the weekend. The upgrades that make sense are the same either way: a steel bar for the front end and a lift kit that handles a full tray, a towbar load and a heavy bar without sagging.
Orders to Tauranga travel by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars and other large items go by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the exact part number before anything is dispatched.

Bullbars for Tauranga drivers
Our bullbars come from Rockarmor, a steel bar range designed for the trucks New Zealanders drive and work. The Rockarmor GT Hoop is a full replacement for the factory bumper, made in powder-coated steel, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights and mounting points for a winch and driving lights. Each bar is engineered for one model, so it bolts to that vehicle's own chassis mounts rather than a generic bracket.
Rockarmor bullbars that suit Bay of Plenty utes and wagons:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Prado 150 Series 2009–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Mitsubishi Triton MR
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota LandCruiser 200 2007–2015
Fitting a steel bullbar is a two-person job with ordinary hand tools. The factory bumper comes off, the bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and the indicators, fog lights and any parking sensors are moved across. If you'd rather not tackle it in the garage, any Tauranga mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it. To finish the front end, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch for getting unstuck on a wet orchard race or forestry road, and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for dark rural roads and the run out along SH2.
Lift kits for Tauranga 4x4s
A steel bar adds weight over the front axle, and a ute that tows a boat or carries a tray of bins all week loads the rear. A lift kit restores the ride height and gives the suspension real capacity. We stock two brands.
RAW 4x4 kits are built for modern utes and wagons. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options for trucks that run mostly empty or ones that tow and carry every day. Good matches for Tauranga vehicles:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Prado 150 Series 2009–2023
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Mazda BT-50 2020+
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit — Mitsubishi Triton MR/MV 2018–2024
Ultima 4x4 covers older and less common 4x4s:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — VW Amarok 2010–2024
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota FJ Cruiser 2006–2010
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit — Toyota Hilux Surf 180 Series 1996–2002
Lift kits bolt in but are easiest for a mechanic with a hoist, and every one needs a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles; bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier before going further.
Popular 4x4s in Tauranga and the Western Bay
The Toyota Hilux is everywhere in the Bay, from orchard N80s that suit the Hilux GT Hoop bullbar and the Hilux lift kit to older N70s that take the 2012–2015 Hilux bar. The Ford Ranger is just as common on building sites and in Pāpāmoa driveways, and a Ranger bullbar is one of the first upgrades owners make.
The Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton are common work utes too, the Mazda BT-50 suits the BT-50 lift kit, and the Nissan Navara D40 takes the Navara bullbar and the Navara D40 lift kit. For towing boats and caravans, the Prado and LandCruiser 200 are favourites — see the Prado 150 lift kit — and there are plenty of LandCruiser 70 Series trucks too, which suit the LandCruiser 70 lift kit.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Tauranga
Mount Maunganui and Pāpāmoa beaches. Tauranga's beaches are not for driving. The city council generally bans vehicles from its beaches to protect the dunes and keep people safe. The exception is boat launching: you can drive onto the beach to launch or retrieve a boat at the ramps at Taylor Reserve, Harrison's Cut and Pāpāmoa Domain, within 50 metres either side of the access and without parking there. At Pāpāmoa, roadworthy ATVs with a council permit can be used for recreational fishing east of the access between 105 and 107 Karewa Parade, at no more than 20km/h and off the dunes. In the Western Bay of Plenty District, beach access is largely limited to existing access points or by permit, with extra restrictions at reserves such as Waihī Beach and Pukehina.
Thompsons Track (Kaimai Range). This legal paper road crosses the Kaimai Range for roughly 13km between Manawaru on the Waikato side and Katikati on the Bay side, and it's used extensively by 4WDs. About 7km of it, on the eastern side, is looked after by the Western Bay of Plenty District Council. The track was closed to all vehicles from 11 April 2026 for winter, with reopening expected in late October or early November 2026 depending on conditions, and in late 2025 the council said major slips on the eastern side meant it couldn't yet be driven right through to the Western Bay. Check the current status before you go, stay on the main track, and keep off the side tracks that lead onto private land.
TECT All Terrain Park. About 34km south of Tauranga on SH36, the 1,650-hectare TECT Park is the council's all-terrain playground for walkers, riders and noisier sports. Its motorsport area is leased by Te Matai Motorsport and associated with several clubs, including the Bay of Plenty 4WD Club, so organised off-road driving there goes through the clubs.
Forestry blocks. Commercial pine forests in the region aren't open for casual driving. For the big forests inland, such as Kaingaroa and Rotoehu, recreational access is by permit, aimed mainly at hunting and fishing, and every vehicle needs a current WOF, registration and at least third-party insurance.
Clubs. The NZFWDA-affiliated Bay of Plenty Four Wheel Drive Club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7.30pm at the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club on Sulphur Point. The club has hosted rounds of the national 4x4 trials championship on farmland off Rangiuru Road near Te Puke.
Fitting your parts in Tauranga
Everything Kren Bits sells is designed to be fitted at home. Bullbars, rock sliders and driving lights go on with hand tools, axle stands and a mate to help lift. If you'd rather not, take your parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician — any of them can fit a bar or wire in a set of lights. Lift kits are easiest on a hoist, and always book a wheel alignment after any suspension work.

No — Kren Bits is online only, with no shopfronts anywhere. Order through the website or call 021 288 6816 and we'll help you choose the right part.
What's the most popular bullbar for Bay of Plenty utes?
Store-wide, our best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.

Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Tauranga?
Fit it yourself, or take the kit to your local mechanic or 4x4 workshop — any competent workshop can install it and sort the alignment.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
Our 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier.
