History of the Roller Top
Ford selected the original roller bearing top mount from the Mk2 Cortina 1600E parts bin. It's function was twofold - The tapered roller bearings can take large axial forces (ie. they are good thrust bearings). Such forces are often experienced upon ‘bump' mode of a Macpherson strut, but they also exhibit low friction under thrust, thus offering low steering effort.

These are designed for 3/4 shaft as with 40mm bilstein, however we do a sleeve kit for mk1 and mk2 when using with standard type inserts RD302- 1/2 or RD303 for 5/8 - these are $35 per kit
