As part of any 4x4 recovery kit you need plenty of quality shackles, and Mean Mother D Shackles fit the bill. Common uses include attaching recovery straps, winch extension straps, tree trunk protectors, and snatch blocks.

Note: shackles can become a dangerous and even lethal projectile if something should breat or fail during 4x4 recovery. Never load a shackle across its width because the load will be imposed on the thread - ie. the force must be at right angles to the pin. Always inspect a shackle before use and if the pin is hard to turn or the shackle has been overstressed, it should be immediately replaced.
