4x4 Parts & Accessories in Mosgiel
Kren Bits sends 4x4 parts and accessories to Mosgiel and the Taieri, including Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and driving lights. Kren Bits is a New Zealand online store. We don't have a Mosgiel shop, so you order on the website, we send the parts to your door, and you fit them yourself or take them to your local mechanic. The bars and kits we stock for the utes you see on the Taieri bolt on, come with fitting hardware, and can be installed by a capable home mechanic or any local workshop.
4x4 parts delivered to Mosgiel
Mosgiel is close to Dunedin, but it runs on the Taieri. The town of about 15,100 people sits on the north-eastern edge of the Taieri Plain, 17km west of central Dunedin, with Saddle Hill on one side, Maungatua across the plain and the Silver Stream running along the north end. Mosgiel once had a woollen mill. These days it's a service centre for the farms around it, and it's home to the Invermay agricultural research centre. Dunedin International Airport is further down the plain at Momona.
That shapes the vehicles. Plenty of Mosgiel utes do the motorway commute to Dunedin during the week, then work on a lifestyle block or a farm at East Taieri, Outram or Wingatui, then head up SH87 towards Middlemarch and the high country at the weekend. A bullbar handles stock and gravel, and a lift kit keeps the ride level once there's a bar, a winch and a loaded tray on board.
Orders to Mosgiel go by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars go by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before anything leaves. Model year is the detail most people get wrong, so check it with us before you order.

Bullbars for Mosgiel drivers
Our bullbars are mostly Rockarmor, a steel bar range built for the trucks New Zealanders really drive. The GT Hoop is a full replacement bar in powder-coated steel, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounts for a winch and driving lights, and brackets made for each model. For a ute that sees the Taieri back roads before sunrise, that front-end protection is worth having.
Rockarmor bars that suit Taieri utes:
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar, Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar, Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar, Toyota Hilux N70 2012–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar, Mitsubishi Triton MR
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar, Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
Fitting a bar takes two people. You remove the factory bumper, bolt the bar to the chassis mounts and move the indicators and any sensors across. If you'd rather not do it yourself, any Mosgiel mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it. For a full front end, add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights. The winch is useful on Maungatua and the Lammermoors, where some vehicles need help getting through ruts. If you run a Hilux N80, Rockarmor steel rock sliders protect the sills on rocky climbs.
Lift kits for Mosgiel 4x4s
A heavy bar sits right over the front springs, so the suspension is the next job for most Mosgiel owners. We carry two lift kit brands.
RAW 4x4 kits are our first choice for modern utes. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, and you pick a load rating for how the ute is used. A commuter that's empty most days needs a different rating from a block ute towing a stock trailer. Popular picks:
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit, Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2022
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit, Mitsubishi Triton MR/MV 2018–2024
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit, Isuzu D-Max 2012–2017
- RAW 4x4 2" Lift Kit, Toyota LandCruiser 76/78/79
Ultima 4x4 kits cover older and less common 4x4s, including plenty of farm hacks still working on the plain:
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit, Toyota Hilux LN110/160/170 1997–2005
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit, Ford Courier / Mazda B2600 1985–2006
- Ultima 2" Lift Kit, VW Amarok 2010–2024
A lift kit bolts in, but it's best done by a mechanic with a hoist, and you'll need a wheel alignment afterwards. Kits in the 2-inch range are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier first.
Popular 4x4s in Mosgiel and the Taieri
The Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux are the usual starting point for a Ranger bullbar or a Hilux lift kit. Mitsubishi Tritons and Isuzu D-Maxes are common farm and trade utes around the plain, and a Triton lift kit suits a ute that's always loaded. The Nissan Navara D40 is still a popular used buy, and the Navara D40 Premium bar fits it.
LandCruiser 70 Series utes suit farm and high-country use, and older LN Hilux utes and Couriers are still common as block vehicles. Families who tow and tour often choose a Prado 150, and the Prado lift kit and Prado GT Hoop are the parts to look at.
4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Mosgiel
Maungatua. The big hill across the plain from Mosgiel is Maungatua, and Outram sits at its foot on SH87. The Rotary Club of Taieri has run a charity 4WD event called "Round the Mountain", a loop around the Maungatua range on off-road tracks with a stop at the summit looking over the Taieri Plains to the Lammermoor and Rock and Pillar ranges. Entry is limited to proper 4WDs with good clearance, low range and off-road tyres. The Landrover Owners Club (Otago) has also taken a 45-vehicle trip to Maungatua. The tracks cross private land, so an organised event or club trip is the way in.
Te Papanui Conservation Park (Lammermoor Range). From Mosgiel, the drive up SH87 through Outram to Clarks Junction is the start of the best-known high-country route near the Taieri. DOC directs visitors onto Old Dunstan Road at Clarks Junction, with the park entrance about 5km past Rocklands Station and 4WD recommended beyond the gate. The park covers about 21,000ha of tussock and around 60% of Dunedin's water catchment. DOC locks the gate over winter, roughly early June to late October, and says to carry a winch or recovery gear. Taieri Rotary has also run 4WD trips mostly inside the park for true off-road vehicles, with deep ruts and wet hollows on the way.
Old Dunstan Road and the Strath Taieri. Past Clarks Junction, Old Dunstan Road follows the gold rush route between the Lammermoor and Rock and Pillar ranges and climbs to almost 1,000m before Paerau. Much of it is 4WD only. The Central Otago District Council closes the back-country section from the Tuesday after King's Birthday weekend until 30 October. DOC's Rock and Pillar Ridge Road leaves Old Dunstan Road just north of the McPhees Creek ford and runs along the tops to Summit Rock at 1,450m.
Clubs. Dunedin's NZFWDA-affiliated clubs are all within easy reach of Mosgiel: the Otago Recreational 4WD Group, the Landrover Owners Club (Otago), and the Land Rover Enthusiasts Club (Otago), which has met at Outram for Te Papanui trips. Joining a club is the simplest way to get onto private-land tracks and learn recovery properly.
Fitting your parts in Mosgiel
Everything we sell is designed for DIY. Bars, sliders, lights and lift kits come with fitting hardware, and a capable owner with a helper can usually do a bullbar at home. If you'd rather leave it to someone else, take your parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician in Mosgiel or around the Taieri. An auto-electrician is the right call for winch and driving light wiring. Book a wheel alignment after any suspension change.
Mosgiel 4x4 FAQs
Do you deliver to Mosgiel?
Yes. We deliver to Mosgiel and across the Taieri, including East Taieri, Wingatui, Fairfield, Outram, Momona, Allanton and Middlemarch, by courier for smaller parts and freight for bullbars.
Do you have a store in Mosgiel?
No. Kren Bits is online only. Shop at krenbits.com or call 021 288 6816 for help choosing parts.
What's the most popular bullbar for Taieri utes?
Across the store, our best-selling Rockarmor bars include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux. All of them suit the utes common around Mosgiel.

Yes, if you're confident with tools. A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on job. A lift kit is easier with a hoist, and it always needs an alignment afterwards.
Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Mosgiel?
Your local mechanic or 4x4 workshop in Mosgiel can fit RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 kits. Ask them to book the wheel alignment for the same visit.
Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?
2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier.
