4x4 Parts & Accessories in Rangiora

Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories to Rangiora and the rest of the Waimakariri District, including Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, rock sliders, winches and LED driving lights. We are a New Zealand online store, not a Rangiora shop: you order on the website, we deliver to your door, and you fit the parts yourself or take them to your local mechanic. The bars and kits we carry for North Canterbury utes are bolt-on and supplied with fitting hardware, so a handy owner or any local workshop can install them.

4x4 parts delivered to Rangiora

Rangiora is the largest town in the Waimakariri District and the seat of the district council, with about 19,300 people. It sits 29km north of central Christchurch, and plenty of residents make that commute each day. But Rangiora looks north and west as much as it looks south. The Ashley River, or Rakahuri, runs just north of the town, and beyond it are the Loburn hills, the road out to Oxford and the foothills of the Southern Alps. Rangiora has also become a gateway to the North Canterbury wineries, and the town is surrounded by farms and lifestyle blocks around Southbrook, Fernside and Loburn.

That makes the typical Rangiora 4x4 a dual-purpose truck. It does the motorway run into the city during the week, then tows a horse float or carries fencing gear on the block, and heads up a gravel valley road at the weekend. Rangiora's car culture runs deep too: the Rangiora Showgrounds has hosted the Street Machines and Muscle Car Madness show for more than twenty years, and the town hosted New Zealand's first traction engine rally back in 1956.

Orders to Rangiora travel by courier through our New Zealand network, and bullbars go by freight. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the part number before anything is sent. Model year is the detail people most often get wrong, especially with utes that changed shape mid-generation.

Bullbars for Rangiora drivers

Our bullbars come from Rockarmor, a steel bar range designed around the vehicles New Zealanders actually drive. The GT Hoop is a full replacement bar in powder-coated steel, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounts for a winch and driving lights, and model-specific brackets. On the back roads between Rangiora, Cust and Oxford, where stock and hares cross at dusk, that protection matters.

Rockarmor bars that suit North Canterbury utes:

Fitting one is a two-person job but not a complicated one. The factory bumper comes off, the bar bolts onto the chassis mounts, and the indicators and any parking sensors are moved across. If you would rather not tackle it at home, any Rangiora mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it. Pair it with a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights for early starts and late drives home from the valley.

Lift kits for Rangiora 4x4s

A steel bar adds weight over the front axle, and a float or a loaded tray adds more at the back, so many Rangiora owners sort the suspension at the same time. We stock two lift kit brands.

RAW 4x4 kits suit modern utes. Each 2-inch (around 50mm) kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load ratings to match how the truck works, from light commuting to towing every weekend. Good picks for Rangiora:

Ultima 4x4 looks after the older farm trucks and less common 4x4s that still earn their keep around the district:

A lift kit is a bolt-in job for a mechanic with a hoist, and it always needs a wheel alignment afterwards. Kits in the 2-inch range are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier first.

Popular 4x4s in Rangiora and North Canterbury

Hilux owners are well covered, from N80s that suit a Hilux bullbar to older N70s that are ready for a Hilux N70 lift kit or a GT Hoop bar for the 2005–2011 Hilux. For Ford owners, the Ranger PX2/PX3 bullbar covers the PX2 and PX3 shapes. Isuzu owners can lift with the D-Max 2012–2017 lift kit, Mitsubishi owners have the Triton MQ bullbar, and anyone towing heavy on a 70 Series can look at the LandCruiser 76/78/79 lift kit.

4x4 tracks and off-road clubs around Rangiora

Ashley River / Rakahuri. The river on Rangiora's doorstep is also closely managed for its birdlife. Endangered birds including the wrybill, banded dotterel, black-billed gull and black-fronted tern nest on its gravels from early September to late January. The lower Ashley, from the Okuku confluence to the mouth, is managed by Environment Canterbury and already has a vehicle ban during nesting season. The upper river is managed by DOC, and vehicles are blocked from entering or leaving the river at the Ashley Gorge reserve. In 2024 Waimakariri District Council decided against a further ban on the upper river and instead brought 4WD clubs, police, DOC, Environment Canterbury, Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga and the Ashley Rakahuri Rivercare Group together to work on education. If you drive near the river, stay out of the riverbed in nesting season.

Lees Valley and Townshend Track (via Oxford). The best-known back-country drive near Rangiora starts in Oxford, west of Rangiora. DOC directions follow Ashley Gorge Road 6km from Oxford, then Lees Valley Road for 20km to the Townshend Track start. Newtracs lists the Townshend Track as a 7.8km 4WD trail in the Waimakariri District with several river crossings that change quickly after rain. The council describes Lees Valley Road itself as narrow, winding and lower standard than its other roads, so drive it with care, especially after rain.

Mount Thomas and Ashley Forest. DOC notes that the Mount Thomas Forest Conservation Area can be reached from Rangiora via Loburn and Birch Hill Road, and it's a good spot for walking, camping and hunting. Next door, Ashley Forest is a private plantation managed by Rayonier Matariki. Access is by permit for cycling only through the North Canterbury Cycling Club, so it isn't a 4WD venue.

Clubs. There is no NZFWDA-affiliated club listed in Rangiora itself. The nearest is 4X4 Events Inc, which meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at the Papanui RSA in Christchurch and runs club trips, trials and the King of Canterbury Enduro. Canterbury's combined 4WD clubs have also been part of the Ashley River talks, and their representatives say members know about the nesting birds and are willing to help protect them.

Fitting your parts in Rangiora

Kren Bits parts are designed for DIY. Bullbars, rock sliders and driving lights bolt on with the supplied hardware, and plenty of North Canterbury owners fit them in the shed with a mate to help. If you'd rather not, take your parts to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician in Rangiora. Book a wheel alignment after any suspension work.

Do you have a store in Rangiora?

No. Kren Bits is online only, so there's no shop in Rangiora. Order on the website or call us on 021 288 6816 to check fitment.

What's the most popular bullbar for North Canterbury utes?

The best-selling Rockarmor bars store-wide include the GT Hoop for the Ford Ranger PX2/PX3 and the Premium bar for the Navara D40, plus the GT Hoop range for the Hilux.

Can I fit a bullbar or lift kit myself?

A bullbar is usually a two-person bolt-on job with basic tools. Lift kits are bolt-in too, but they are easier with a hoist and always need a wheel alignment afterwards.

Where can I get a lift kit fitted in Rangiora?

Take it to your local mechanic or 4x4 workshop in Rangiora. Any competent workshop can fit RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 kits, and they can book the alignment at the same time.

Do lift kits need certification in New Zealand?

2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier.
