4x4 Parts & Accessories in the Wellington Region
Kren Bits delivers 4x4 parts and accessories right across the Wellington region, from the capital and the Hutt Valley to Porirua, the Kāpiti Coast and over the Remutaka Hill to the Wairarapa. We stock Rockarmor bullbars, RAW 4x4 and Ultima 4x4 lift kits, winches, rock sliders and driving lights. We're an online-only New Zealand store with no shopfront in the region: you order online, we deliver to your door, and you fit the parts yourself or take them to your local mechanic. Every bar and kit is bolt-on and comes with its fitting hardware.
Towns we deliver to in Wellington
The region covers very different country. There's the steep, windy city and its south coast, the busy Hutt Valley floodplain, the Kāpiti beaches and the Tararua foothills, and the open farmland and wine country of the Wairarapa. Pick your town for local tracks, clubs and the parts that suit the utes people drive there:
- Wellington City: hillside suburbs, rural Mākara and the 4WD-only coast road at Te Kopahou.
- Lower Hutt: Petone, Seaview, Eastbourne and Wainuiomata, the gateway to Catchpool Valley.
- Upper Hutt: home of the Akatarawa Forest and the start of the Remutaka Hill.
- Porirua: the harbour city north of the capital.
- Paraparaumu: the heart of the Kāpiti Coast.
- Waikanae: the Kāpiti end of Akatarawa Road.
- Masterton: the Wairarapa's main town.
We also deliver to the smaller towns across the region:
- Ōtaki: at the northern edge of the region, surrounded by farmland, market gardens and lifestyle blocks, with Ōtaki Forks as the western entry to Tararua Forest Park.
- Carterton: a Wairarapa farming town about 14km south-west of Masterton, and New Zealand's self-styled daffodil capital.
- Greytown: once called the fruit bowl of the Wairarapa, with a Victorian main street on SH2.
- Featherston: at the foot of the Remutaka Range near Lake Wairarapa, where SH2 comes down off the hill, and the jumping-off point for the drive south to Palliser Bay.
- Martinborough: South Wairarapa's wine town, and the road south to the Aorangi Range and Cape Palliser.
Smaller parts travel by courier and bullbars go by freight, including to rural addresses. Tell us your vehicle and we'll confirm the exact part number before anything is sent. Use the vehicle finder at the top of krenbits.com, or call the Kren Offroad team on 021 288 6816.
Bullbars for Wellington utes
Our bullbars come from Rockarmor, a steel range built for the utes and wagons New Zealanders drive. The GT Hoop is a full bumper replacement in powder-coated steel, with hoops that protect the grille and headlights, mounts for a winch and driving lights, and a fit specific to each model. Whether you're crossing the Remutaka Hill at night or driving Wairarapa back roads, it's solid front-end protection.
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota Hilux N80 2015–2020
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Ford Ranger PX2/PX3
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Isuzu D-Max 2020–2024
- Rockarmor Premium Bullbar — Nissan Navara D40 2005–2015
- Rockarmor GT Hoop Bullbar — Toyota LandCruiser 200 2007–2015
A bullbar is a two-person bolt-on job: the factory bumper comes off, the bar bolts to the chassis mounts, and the lights and sensors move across. If you'd rather not, any local mechanic or auto-electrician can fit it. Add a Rockarmor 12,000lb winch and Phantom 9-inch LED driving lights to complete the front end.
Lift kits for Wellington 4x4s
RAW 4x4 2-inch (about 50mm) kits suit modern utes and wagons. Each kit includes front coils, rear leaf springs and nitrogen-charged shocks, with load options to match how you use the truck. Popular picks include the Hilux N80 kit, the Prado 150 kit, the LandCruiser 76/78/79 kit and the Triton MR/MV kit.
Ultima 4x4 covers older and less common 4x4s, such as the Navara D22, the Hilux Surf 180 and the VW Amarok.
Every lift needs a wheel alignment afterwards. 2-inch kits are chosen to stay within normal road-legal limits for most vehicles. Bigger lifts, body lifts or oversized tyres may need LVV certification, so check with a certifier.
4x4 tracks and clubs across Wellington
Akatarawa Forest (Upper Hutt). Greater Wellington's 15,000-hectare Akatarawa Forest is the region's best-known 4WD country. Casual 4WD trips aren't permitted. Organised 4WD and side-by-side trips must be led by a current ARAC-certified trip leader carrying the access permit. Keep to designated routes and stay under 30km/h.
Te Kopahou and the south coast (Wellington City). Past the old quarry at the western end of Ōwhiro Bay, the coast road towards Red Rocks and Sinclair Head is unformed and suitable for 4WD only. It's open to 4WDs every day except Sunday, and the council closes it when the fire risk is high.
Remutaka Forest Park. From Wainuiomata, the Coast Road leads to Catchpool Valley, DOC's most popular entrance to the park, with a campground and a ford on the access road. On the Wairarapa side, Corner Creek Campsite is about 38km south-west of Featherston via Western Lake Road and Ocean Beach. DOC says the road there is unsuitable for low 2WD vehicles, has two stream fords, and often needs a high-clearance 4WD after rain.
Aorangi Forest Park (South Wairarapa). Between Martinborough and Cape Palliser, DOC lists four-wheel driving among the activities in Aorangi Forest Park, with western access off Cape Palliser Road. Access across private land needs the landowner's permission, and DOC warns that the road below the Whatarangi cliffs is prone to erosion.
Kāpiti beaches. Most Kāpiti Coast beaches are closed to vehicles. Driving is only allowed in the council's permitted driving and boat-launching areas, with a 20km/h limit, and vehicles are never allowed in the Waikanae Estuary Scientific Reserve.
Clubs. NZFWDA-affiliated clubs in the region include the Cross Country Vehicle Club (Wellington), the Kiwi 4x4 Club and the Wellington Jeep Club in Wellington, Capital Cruisers 4WD Club and Windy City Off-Roaders in Lower Hutt, the Featherston Family 4x4 Club, the Tararua 4WD Club at Pukerua Bay and the Kapiti Family 4WD Club at Waikanae Beach. In the Wairarapa there's Offroad Wairarapa 4x4 Club in Masterton, the Valley 4WD Club in Greytown and the Wairarapa Four Wheel Drive Club in Carterton.
Fitting your parts
Kren Bits parts are designed for DIY. They bolt to factory mounts and come with the hardware. Fit them at home with a helper, or take them to your local mechanic, 4x4 workshop or auto-electrician anywhere in the region. Book a wheel alignment after any suspension work.
